The City of Winnipeg has released the results of an internal investigation into the conduct of building inspectors who were found to be neglecting their duties on the job. The investigation led to eight inspectors being fired and seven more being disciplined.

WCA recently provided a submission to the City of Winnipeg red tape review. In this submission we outlined our concerns with permit processing times, the proposed Site Plan Compliance Regime, and difficulties in scheduling inspections.

The Winnipeg Construction Association recently provided a submission to the Manitoba Commission on Kindergarten to Grade 12 Education. In this submission we provided support for the High School Apprentice Program (HSAP) and suggested that more could be done to inform students on career options in construction.

The Manitoba Government released the findings of the Treasury Board Secretariat’s (TBS) planning, zoning and permitting review yesterday, covering issues with the planning, zoning and permitting activities across the province including Manitoba Hydro, the Office of the Fire Commission and the City of Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Construction Association welcomes the report, and is looking forward to helping improve planning, zoning and permitting in Manitoba.
