Q. What is SignaSur?

SignaSur is a digital contract lifecycle management platform built and released by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) specifically for Canadian standard construction documents: the CCDC and CCA documents you members already use every day.

It replaces the traditional workflow of physical documents and copyright seals with one secure online experience. A member fills out a contract on screen, sends it for signature, and stores the finished document in a secure dashboard.

The electronic copyright seal and a complete audit trail are built in.

Q. Why is CCA launching this now?

For years, the contract process has been fragmented, leading to version confusion, slow signatures, and the risk of unauthorized edits. CCA developed SignaSur to solve these specific challenges by providing a single, secure platform for all CCDC and CCA documents. This transition ensures that every member has a reliable digital workflow in place as the traditional document supply is phased out starting January 1, 2027.

Q3. How much does it cost?

SignaSur uses an annual enrollment plus document credits model. Members pay $60 for platform access for the year, then $40 for each contract. There is no separate seal sticker to buy on top of the document.

Prices vary for members and non-members.

Q. Why would I switch to SignaSur if it costs more?

For most members, the direct document costs come out comparable-to or lower-than the traditional process. The real, consistent savings come on top of that, in the administrative and operational time SignaSur removes.

With SignaSur, a single credit covers one agreement, and that agreement can be revised and re-sent for signature as many times as needed before it is finalized and signed.

Add to that the time saved on each contract: no more driving in to pick up documents, no more printing, signing, scanning, mailing. Plus, the annual enrollment includes complimentary access to CCDC and CCA guides and recorded webinars.

Q5. How does the contract signing process work?

1. You can buy your annual enrollment and document credits through WCA’s Document Store. The credits load automatically to your SignaSur account, ready to apply to contracts.

2. Open the contract template you need and fill in your project details on screen. SignaSur pulls the most current, official document, so you always work from a trusted source.

3. SignaSur automatically embeds the copyright seal when you finalize the document.

4. Send your document for signature through the built-in e-signature process. Signing parties receive it by email and sign from their preferred device. Signing parties don’t need a SignaSur account, and signing costs them nothing.

5. The signed contract returns to your secure dashboard.

Q. Is the digital signature legally binding?

Yes. SignaSur uses a legally recognized e-signature process, with a permanent transaction record and a unique transaction ID for every signed document.

The result is a signed contract you can rely on the same way you relied on a paper-and-seal version, now with stronger evidence of integrity.

In fact, this system provides a higher level of security than physical seals, as it protects the document from unauthorized edits throughout the entire signing process.

Q. I’m not tech-savvy. Will I be able to use SignaSur?

Yes. The platform was built to be simple to use.

Q. What happens to physical copyright seals and the paper workflow?

Starting January 1, 2027, CCA is winding down its wholesale supply of traditional construction documents and physical copyright seals to associations. WCA will keep selling from our existing stock while supplies last. Once that stock runs out, digital becomes the only way to access current, valid CCA and CCDC documents. Please note – Physical CCDC 9 Seals (Stat Decs) will continue to be sold for the foreseeable future. All other documents and seals will migrate to SignaSur only.

Both traditional and digital paths are available in parallel during this phaseout. We encourage members to try SignaSur early. There’s no pressure to switch overnight; like any industry transition, this one happens at members’ own pace, so long as traditional document inventory is available.

Q. Is this a one-time purchase or a subscription?

It is both. Members pay an annual enrollment fee for ongoing platform access, then purchase document credits to apply to each contract. The annual enrollment also gives you access to CCDC on-demand webinars, plus CCDC and CCA guides. So you’re not paying a flat subscription fee for unlimited use, and you’re not paying only when you use it. You pay for access plus the credits they use.

Q. How secure are documents in SignaSur, and where are they stored?

SignaSur’s servers are hosted in Canada. All documents and signatures are SSL encrypted, backed up daily, and have failover contingencies in the event of a primary host server outage.

Q. Are there limits on attachments and file sizes?

Yes. SignaSur supports documents up to 500 pages and 25 MB in size, with up to 25 recipients per signing request. Most CCDC and CCA contracts and their typical attachments fall well within these limits.
